Pre-revenue biotech whose only trial missed its endpoint, running on one man's checkbook with negative equity — a binary bet, not an investment.

Stockholders' equity -$128M · FY2025

Galectin is a clinical-stage biopharma with no product, no revenue since its 2000 inception, and an accumulated deficit of $433M. Its single asset, belapectin, is its only story — and in December 2024 the NAVIGATE trial's composite endpoint 'did not reach statistical significance.' Management itself concedes it is 'only in the preliminary process' of a possible Phase 3, pending a Type C FDA meeting, and 'cannot provide any certainty that a Phase 3 clinical trial will be attempted or completed.' The MD&A forward-looking section flatly states the company 'currently do[es] not have plans or funding to undertake another clinical trial.' That is the core problem: the value driver failed, and the next step is unfunded and unapproved.

The balance sheet reflects a company living on borrowed time and borrowed money. Stockholders' equity is deeply negative at -$128M against $146M of liabilities and only $19.5M of total assets; liabilities/equity is a meaningless -1.14x precisely because the equity base is gone. Cash is $17.7M plus a $10M line of credit from chairman Mr. Uihlein, which management says funds operations only 'through April 2027' — roughly a nine-to-ten-month runway from this filing. The filing repeatedly flags substantial doubt about going-concern status historically and warns that any new capital will likely come 'through the sale of equity, or securities convertible into equity,' diluting holders (shares already grew 4.2% to 65.8M).
